The Athletics fired GM David Forst. Dan Feinstein takes over as a preliminary GM. It’s unclear if firing him was the right move.

The San Francisco Giants continue to needlessly trade from their bullpen, by trading Erik Miller to the Boston Red Sox for 2B Marcelo Mayer. Boston overpaid, so maybe I should take that back.

The Washington Nationals traded SP Foster Griffin to the Cleveland Guardians for Minor League pitchers Will Dion, Josh Hartle, Kendeglys Virguez and Nick Mitchell. Washington sold high and Cleveland improved their rotation.

The Detroit Tigers traded SP Casey Mize to the San Diego Padres for Minor Leaguers Kash Mayfield, Jackson Wolf and Gage Workman. Great trade for San Diego, as they needed a top of the rotation arm.

The San Francisco Giants traded LF Heliot Ramos to the New York Yankees for Minor Leaguers Henry Lalane and Kaeden Kent. I don’t understand this for San Francisco, but it’s good for the Bronx Bombers, who need offense.

The Minnesota Twins smartly acquired new closer Jeff Hoffman from the Toronto Blue Jays for Minor Leaguers Dasan Hill, John Klein and Dameury Pena. Good move for Toronto to save money.

The New York Mets traded SP Clay Holmes and OF Tyrone Taylor to the Chicago Cubs for Minor League SS Jefferson Rojas. Good move for the Mets, but the Cubs still need an ace and overpaid.

The Toronto Blue Jays traded CF Daulton Varsho to the Houston Astros for SP Spencer Arrighetti. Houston improved their OF as they badly needed to, and Toronto traded a free agent to be for starting pitching depth. Good move for both sides.

The Pittsburgh Pirates likely acquired new closer Luke Weaver from the New York Mets for Minor League SS Sammy Stafura.

The Baltimore Orioles traded C Adley Rutschman and C Jake Rogers to the Boston Red Sox for Minor League RHP Anthony Evanson, Minor League OF Enddy Azocar, Minor League RHP Kyson Witherspoon and C Carlos Narvaez. Baltimore now clearly move on with Samuel Basallo as their new catcher. Boston overdid quite a bit, and may not have improved as much as they wanted to.

The Los Angeles Dodgers continued to deepen the team’s pitching staff by acquiring SP Kris Bubic, for Minor League LHP Carlos Duran. Kansas City got very little back. Bubic is a free agent after the season, and has dealt with a lot of injuries.

The San Francisco Giants smartly traded SP Robbie Ray to the San Diego Padres for Minor Leaguers Joniel Hernandez and Miguel Mendez. San Diego upgraded their rotation for the stretch run, though he’s not a difference-maker they need for the top of their rotation. They’re splitting Ray’s remaining $7.661 million salary for this season.

The Miami Marlins smartly traded DH Liam Hicks to the Tampa Bay Rays for Minor League RHP Brayden Taylor, Minor League SS/2B Adrian Santana and Minor League RHP Jacob Kisting. Miami sold high and Tampa upgraded their lineup and catcher as they needed. Hicks isn’t a difference-maker, but it’s a love that raises Tampa’s talent level. Miami can still compete for the playoffs, while improving the farms, Good move for both teams. Miami later traded Minor League LHP Braxton Garrett to the Chicago Cubs for prospects Jonathon Long and Jace Beck. Good trade for Miami and a gamble for Chicago.

The Baltimore Orioles traded LF Taylor Ward to the Seattle Mariners for righty RP Alex Hoppe, and Minor Leaguers Brock Moore and Harrison Kreiling. Seattle overpaid. Baltimore isn’t going to the playoffs and Seattle could use a boost in the LF/DH mix, though Ward won’t make a difference.

The Angels continued their rebuild by trading LF Jo Adell to the Cleveland Guardians for Minor League C Jacob Cozart. Cleveland needed to upgrade their lineup, but it remains to be seen if Adell is going to boost their lineup enough. It’s a good trade for them, Anaheim should’ve traded Adell last off-season, as they received a weak return for a former top prospect. They later traded RP Ryan Zeferjahn to the Chicago Cubs for C/DH Moises Ballesteros and Minor League RHP Mason McGwire. The Angels are finally rebuilding, and Chicago improved their bullpen.

The Los Angeles Angels traded SP Jose Soriano to the Toronto Blue Jays for prospects Eddie Micheletti, Arjun Nimmala and Angel Rivero. Nimmala is a top prospect and helps improve Anaheim’s farm system. The Angels are finally rebuilding, so this was the right move for them to do. Toronto effectively replaced Gausman with Soriano, which is an upgrade.

The Philadelphia Phillies acquired 2B Luis Arraez and right-handed RP Caleb Killian from the San Francisco Giants, and lefty RP Brooks Raley from the New York Mets for Minor Leaguers John Spikerman (to the Mets), Ramon Marquez (to SF), Marty Gair (to SF) and Luke Gabrysh (to the Mets). Arraez improves Philly’s lineup, but they need power and OF help. Bullpen help is always useful and both San Francisco and the Mets got decent returns.

Toronto Blue Jays traded SP Kevin Gausman to the Chicago Cubs for Minor League OF Brett Bateman and Minor League 2B/SS Tyler Southisene. Made sense for Toronto to do, and for Chicago to do, still won’t move the needle.

In a risky but promising move, the New York Yankees acquired 1B/2B Luis Garcia Jr. from the Washington Nationals for prospects Jack Cebert, Ben Grable and Yovanny Cruz, and right-handed RP Jake Bird. Solid return and trade for Washington. They’re not going to the playoffs, so may as well be smart and sell, though the return was weak. When everyone is healthy, the Bronx Bombers have a better lineup.

The New York Mets smartly traded SP Freddy Peralta to the Tampa Bay Rays for prospects Aidan Smith, Emilien Pitre and Gary Gill Hill. Tampa will need Peralta to bounce back however, so it’s a gamble for them.

The Los Angeles Dodgers smartly acquired SP Tarik Skubal from the Detroit Tigers for pitching prospects River Ryan and Brady Smith, and Minor League OF Zyhir Hope. LA are clear favorites to win the World Series, and will be fine even without extending him after the season. The Detroit Tigers punted on the season, but that was the right call.

The Seattle Mariners finally rid themselves of SP Luis Castillo, trading him to the Chicago White Sox for prospects Nolan Jones and Boston Smith, and RP Seranthony Dominguez. I don’t get this for Chicago. Castillo isn’t helping them, they were better off keeping Dominguez and the prospects. Seattle won this trade by a mile.

In a surprise move that helps both teams, the Boston Red Sox traded SP Connelly Early to the Washington Nationals for 3B Curtis Mead.

The Cincinnati Reds extended SP Chase Burns for 7 years/$105 million in a solid move.

The St. Louis Cardinals extended SS J.J. Wetherholt for 8 years/$112.5 million, with performance bonuses that can raise that to $132 million. Solid move for both sides.

The Los Angeles Angels fired GM Perry Minasian and replaced him with John Mozeliak. This changes nothing.

The New York Mets fired manager Carlos Mendoza and replaced him with Andy Green. I don’t think that their terrible season was Mendoza’s fault. They have a poorly constructed roster that was hit by injuries.

The Philadelphia Phillies fired manager Rob Thomson, and made Don Mattingly their new manager. It makes sense, but might not save their season.

Boston Red Sox fired manager Alex Cora, but it’s not his fault the team is bad this season.

The Seidlers sold the San Diego Padres to Jose E. Feliciano and Kwanza Jones. Time will tell how it will affect the team’s finances.

The Detroit Tigers extended SS Kevin McGonigle for 8 years/$150 million in a solid move.

The Pittsburgh Pirates smartly extended SS Konnor Griffin for 9 years/$140 million.

The Baltimore Orioles needlessly extended SP Shane Baz for 5 years/$68 million.
