The Atlanta Braves signed SP Cole Hamels to a 1 year deal worth $18 million. He’s not the pitcher that he used to be, but it’s a great one year deal as it poses little risk for Atlanta and gives them a solid inning eater. That said, he’s not an ace any more.
The Philadelphia Phillies signed SP Zack Wheeler for 5 years/$118 million, which is $24 million per year. I think that he’s pretty risky, especially considering Steamer projects a 4.26 ERA for him next season. Even this past season he had a 4.06 xFIP. He’s getting more than $120 million, which is likely to to be a burden for Philly in the future.
