THE NEW YORK METS MUST TRADE NOAH SYNDERGAARD & JACOB DEGROM

After the New York Mets lost the World Series in 2015, it looked as if it was the beginning of a dynasty rather than the peak for that particular roster. Fast forward three years later and aside from an exit at the wild card playoff game the following year, they have been a bottom of the division team unable to make the playoffs. They have owners who refuse to spend, a low ranked farm system and are in a division with the rising Atlanta Braves and Philadelphia Phillies, not to mention the Washington Nationals. All three teams have better rosters and farm systems. It’s time for a rebuild and to do so by trading their two best assets, starting pitchers Noah Syndergaard & Jacob DeGrom.

Syndergaard is controllable through arbitration until 2021 and DeGrom until 2020. Teams would be lining up to land either ace with these contracts. Can you imagine the haul that they can receive by trading both?! Each one would be the top starting pitcher available, and they can market both of them! They wouldn’t be able to trade both to the same team (due to the team being almost certainly unwilling to give up the needed pieces), but they could trade them to different teams and end up with a top 10 farm system. What teams come to mind specifically?

The Los Angeles Dodgers with Clayton Kershaw’s uncertain future, would likely be willing to make a move. The New York Mets could land a package headlined by Walker Buehler and Alex Verdugo. The St. Louis Cardinals could put themselves ahead of Milwaukee and the Chicago Cubs by acquiring a proven ace to pair with Carlos Martinez atop their rotation. They could send a package headlined by Jack Flaherty and/or Luke Weaver.

Speaking about the Milwaukee Brewers, they could send Corbin Burnes and Freddy Peralta as part of the package for either New York Mets ace. Acquiring a proven ace would lift Milwaukee further over St. Louis and Chicago. Could the Houston Astros attempt to create the greatest rotation in history by dangling Kyle Tucker?

The Philadelphia Phillies could try to do an in-division trade by offering a package headlined by Sixto Sanchez. The Washington Nationals could do the same by offering Victor Robles (if they’re willing to replace Bryce Harper after this season with Michael A. Taylor).

I don’t think that they’ll be willing to trade either one across town to the New York Yankees, but they could expect a package headlined by Justus Sheffield, Clint Frazier and Estevan Florial.

I don’t think that they should stop there. They should also trade Jay Bruce, Todd Frazier, Asdrubal Cabrera & Jeurys Familia. They might have to eat some money to trade Bruce and Frazier but can you imagine the farm system that they would have after trading all of these players?

What do you think?

  1. Not trading degrom to the Yankees unless it’s andujar or Torres, Frazier, Sheffield plus another prospect (if its andujar and not Torres)

I’m in favor with Mets trading one if not both but they need to fill infield, catching holes before OF.

    • I completely agree, the Mets shouldn’t trade DeGrom to the Yankees unless they receive a big haul in return. Helping the Yankees is not going to please their fan base. Which is also why I don’t see the two sides agreeing on a trade. I also agree that the Mets need infield and catching help more than in the OF.

    • Have you not been following the game for the last few years? Prospects get traded for veterans all the time. Buehler is not an ace, he’s a top prospect who is somewhat proven in the Majors. The same for Flaherty, who also has shaky peripherals. Neither LA or St. Louis would hesitate to trade them for a far better and actually proven ace. If you think that either DeGrom or Syndergaard would cost less you really need to do more research.

  2. Would the Dodgers take syndergaard and cespedes for Buehler, verdugo, muncy and wood.
Than trade Blevins and Wheeler to Houston for 3b jd Davis
Trade Cabrera and familia to Cleveland for C Mejia
Trade Frazier to someone. That needs a 3b
Trade Bruce to Colorado for Shaw
Helps the Mets with a young inf; 1b) muncy 2) McNeil or (tj Rivera) ss)Rosario 3) Davis c) Mejia
    Of) verdugo,Nimmo and Conforto
Rotation: DeGrom, wood,Buehler,Matz and 1 off our young aaa pitchers
    Bullpen: Lugo,gsselman,shaw

    • I like your thinking! I don’t think that Cleveland will give Mejia for Cabrera and Familia, but other prospects could be in the mix. I like the trade with Colorado too. I don’t see LA taking Cespedes however though Buehler/Verdugo for Thor makes sense to me.
