2024 IMPORTANT IN-SEASON TRANSACTIONS

Latest on top.

The Philadelphia Phillies extended manager Rob Thomson through the 2026 season in a good move.

Thad Levine stepped down as the Minnesota Twins GM in an interesting move. It seemed the season was more ownership’s fault for not spending, but he didn’t do well either.

The Cincinnati Reds made a good move by naming Terry Francona their manager.

San Francisco moved on from POB Farhan Zaudi in a good move. He was terrible. Buster Posey takes over. St. Louis replaced their POB John Mozeliak with Chaim Bloom in another good move.

The Miami Marlins made a managerial change.

Colorado Rockies DH Charlie Blackmon has called it a career in a smart move. It is time as he’s not that good anymore.

The Cincinnati Reds unfairly fired manager David Bell. It’s not his fault that the team was constructed badly,

The Texas Rangers extended GM Chris Young in a good move.

In a good move, San Francisco Giants extended 3B Matt Chapman for 6 years/$151 million.

Seattle fired Manager Scott Servais and will replace him with Dan Wilson. I guess it makes sense, but it’s not Servais’ fault that their hitting has been terrible. Wilson is an odd choice, as he has no experience managing, or even as a bench coach.

The Los Angeles Angels extended GM Perry Minasian for 2 years. They’re a terribly run franchise, but I guess that’s more on owner Arte Moreno, so extending him is OK I guess.

In a pointless move, the Chicago White Sox fired Manager Pedro Grifol. They made Grady Sizemore the interim manager.

A haul! More of my writing on Marlin Maniac.

Even more.

I wrote more here.

The selling Toronto Blue Jays traded DH Justin Turner to the Seattle Mariners for Minor League OF RJ Schreck. Good trade for both sides, but Seattle still needs impact bats.

I wrote about this on Marlin Maniac.

Philly acquired CP Carlos Estevez from the Los Angeles Angels for prospects RHP George Klassen and LHP Samuel Aldegheri. Philly way overpaid with two top 10 prospects in their system for a shaky closer. Good deal for the Angels, not a good one for Philly.

See here. The New York Yankees get a 2B for 2025 and a boost this season. It makes sense for the Miami Marlins based on injury-proneness and limited team control.

Baltimore traded SP Zach Eflin to the Tampa Bay Rays for prospects OF Matthew Etzel, RHP Jackson Baumeister and 3B/OF Mac Horvath. Solid move for Tampa, a bad one for Baltimore who need a better arm in the rotation.

The Seattle Mariners improved their lineup by acquiring LF Randy Arozarena from the Tampa Bay Rays for prospects OF Aidan Smith, RHP Brody Hopkins and a player to be named later. Tampa is saving money in a lost season, but won’t miss him. Seattle is still losing the AL West to the Houston Astros.

The Philadelphia Phillies smartly extended SP Cristopher Sanchez for 4 years/$22.5 million, with 2 option years for $14 million and $15 million.

The Boston Red Sox probably smartly extended CF Ceddanne Raffaela for 8 years/$50 million.

Good trade between the Miami Marlins and San Diego Padres for both sides. My analysis.
