FANTASY BASEBALL 2021: DAILY PLAYER ADVICE & CLOSER CHART

As the season goes on, some players become underrated and potential buy lows and others become overrated and great sell highs. The players in the “pick up” section are those who may still be available on your league’s waiver wire, as in they’re owned in less than 60% of leagues. The players to drop are still owned in over 50% of leagues. I’m not listing obvious drops, such as players who suffered serious injuries that will end their season or players demoted to the Minors. This is primarily for redraft leagues. Players are in alphabetical order based on last name.

BUY

1. Devers, Rafael BOS 3B

He’s undervalued despite being an elite 3B.

2. Torres, Gleyber NYY SS

He’s finally heating up.

SELL

1. Arozarena, Randy TBR LF

He’s too streaky to count on.

2. Biggio, Cavan TOR 3B

He‘s having a terrible season and it’s backed up by his advanced metrics. He’s not going to turn it around.

3. Blackmon, Charlie COL RF

Name value is the only reason he’s even still on rosters.

4. Bryant, Kris CHC 3B

His BABIP is almost .400, so it’s a good time to sell high and get better production for the rest of the season.

5. Castellanos, Nick CIN RF

His BABIP is very high and his stats will crash hard. He was never really worth the price to begin with so sell high while you still can.

6. Castillo, Luis CIN SP

He’s having a terrible season and it’s best to move on while he still has value left.

7. Gallo, Joey TEX RF

He isn’t hitting much for power anymore due to his new approach, but his terrible contact remains.

8. Greinke, Zack HOU SP

His ERA is rising and his FIP and xFIP are that of a bottom of the rotation starter with his k/9 being below average. He is declining.

9. LeMahieu, DJ NYY 2B

He‘s back to his Colorado days, time to move on while he still has value.

10. Lindor, Francisco NYM SS

Despite a low BABIP, he just doesn’t seem to be able to bounce back. Keep in mind, he was bad last season too. His underlying metrics don’t look that bat, but it may be time to be safe and move on.

11. Martinez, J.D. BOS DH

His BABIP is too high and I’m not sure he’s back to his old form.

12. Snell, Blake SDP SP

When Tampa Bay trade someone, don’t get them. His control is horrible and his advanced metrics back his bad production up.

13. Story, Trevor COL SS

He has home/away splits and is likely to be traded out of Coors Field at the trade deadline. He’s not even having that good of a season while still hitting there.

14. Turner, Justin LAD 3B

His BABIP is very high and he’s injury prone.

PICK UP

1. Bard, Daniel COL CP

His advanced metrics indicate that his poor production is a fluke.

2. Cobb, Alex LAA SP

He has a good K/9 rate and Ave like advanced metrics.

DROP

1. Bundy, Dylan LAA SP

He’s waiver wire material at this point.

2. Gurriel Jr., Lourdes TOR LF

His advanced metrics and projections indicate not much improvement.

3. Lamet, Brandon SDP SP

He can’t stay healthy or pitch a starter’s workload. He will likely be shut down for the season soon. He might still be tradeable.

4. Lowe, Brandon TBR 2B

A complete bust as I predicted.

5. Maeda, Kenta MIN SP

He has injury issues, is on a bad team and his ERA makes him untradeable. I don’t see him turning things around this season.

6. Plesac, Zach CLE SP

He’s waiver wire material with no hole for a rebound.

CLOSER CHART

The chart is color coded: Red = close to losing his job. Orange = might be in danger of losing his job soon. Green = safe. Asterisk next to the closer indicates that he’s injured and that the “next in line” is currently the closer. Red/orange doesn’t always mean that the closer us doing badly, he might simply be a trade candidate.
